ABOut the PROJECT

Everything is getting digital nowadays. Kids also getting attracted to mobile phones and tablets more than books. 

Researchers found most of the children exceeded recommended screen-time guidelines, which call for a daily maximum of one hour of screen time per day. 

"They found that 79 percent of two-year-olds and 97 percent of three-year-olds exceed those guidelines,” said Eva Love, M.D., of Cleveland Clinic

They see stuff that might not be useful for them. There are several applications for flashcards but most of them don't have a good user experience.

I worked as a UI/UX Designer on this project. My key responsibilities were to do some research on the existing flashcards applications team and to design a solution from the scratch. I worked on the visual design and elements as well as on user flows and interaction design.  I was the sole designer working on the project under the supervision of the UX director.

After exploring a lot of existing applications and finding the problems in them regarding the design principles and heuristics. I came up with a solution with the following features

Categories – I worked on one master category that is "animals" with subcategories like wild animals, domestic animals, birds, insects and sea animals.

Better Visual Design - I try to create a friendly user interface by changing the backgrounds according to the categories and designing the animal's avatars that toddlers can find attractive.

Multiple Images  - I put 5 real images for each of the cards which appears randomly whenever the card is tapped.

Animation - If the screen is inactive for 1 minute the cards animate to draw the attention of the toddler

Playback Audio - When a card is tapped not only the image is visible to the child but there is also playback audio that pronounces the word for it and lets the kid memorize it effectively.

Sound - Animals' sounds are also a great feature that let the kid explore animals' vocals and sounds they have.

Quiz - This feature will let the kid test their memorization in a fun way and let them learn from their mistakes.
